"During lockdown, The Square Orange underwent a refurbishment and despite social distancing measures in place it hasn't lost its heart and soul. The “Squorange" is an unexpected gem found nestled in the heart of Keswick. With a full bar of guest wines from family run vineyards, local microbreweries alongside Belgian and German beers, it also has coffee blends from Cumbrian roasteries as well as flavours sourced from further afield such as from India and South America."

"24/05/2021: Called at the Square Orange on the off chance of getting a walk in table as it was fully booked, first impressions we were greated by a young gentleman (chris)was very polite and helpful, took us to our table gave us a little time and came back to take our order. We started with the nachos loaded with pulled pork didn't get a photo as we got stuck right in. Then came the tapas we order loads and it did not disappoint every mouthful was divine."

"21/05/2021: Went to Casa Bella few days after Lockdown lifted in May 21. Very happy that all protocols were being followed.Staff were all very friendly, and were happy to do 2 of the 3 main course dishes as small portions (due to small appetites). We had a salmon and prawn pasta, a spinach pasta, and a mushroom pasta."

"An impressive sight with its turrets and battlements, this mock-Gothic castle was built in 1840 for James Dawson, a retired doctor from Liverpool, but it has been owned by the National Trust since 1929. Though the interior is largely empty, the lakeside grounds are glorious. It was once used as a holiday home by Beatrix Potter's family. The best way to arrive is by boat from Bowness; there's limited parking and preference is given to non-driving visitors on busy days."

"Wray Castle is a Gothic castle situated on the north-west shores of Lake Windermere and is run by the National Trust. Your whole family can try sailing with taster sessions taking place on selected days through the summer holidays. They also offer self-led activities which include den building, skimming stones or making a daisy chain, which you can tick off the National Trust’s ‘50 things to do before you’re 11 ¾’ list."

"White Cross Bay is less than 5 minutes by car to Brockhole, where you can catch a boat to the other side of Lake Windermere to visit Wray Castle. On the way out you have to go to Ambleside first, get off the boat for 20 mins, re-board, and then set off for Wray Castle but on the trip back you go straight across to Brockhole. The Woodland Nature Play Trail at Wray Castle is great."

"01/03/2021: We visited the Copper Pot Cafe twice during our stay in Ambleside, and both times we were treated to a fantastic breakfast.We were able to get a walk in table each time, with only a minor wait.The staff are friendly, and the food was excellent, with generous portions.The only downside is that there's only one toilet, which is accessed externally, which can mean queueing in the rain, however everything else was so good it doesn't warrant knocking off a point."

"‘Top Coffee’ has got to be the highest accolade I can award, and wow these folks deserve it. Secreted away on one of Ambleside’s quiet streets, this externally humble cafe is home to my most highly regarded coffee of the lot. They delivered a strong coffee (on request), the beans of which having being sourced and roasted locally."

This part of Ambleside was known as Above Stock and is home to some of the oldest buildings in the town, with the Unicorn being the oldest pub.
