Eating Out in Keswick
"When we arrived in Ambleside, Zeffirellis was our first port of call. This Italian-inspired vegetarian restaurant is also owned by the same people as Fellinis & Ambleside Manor and is a little more casual than its sister restaurant. Their speciality is pizza and pasta dishes, with lots of vegan options available."
"You absolutely must visit this little cafe while you’re in Ambleside. As the name suggests, apple pie is their speciality and they bake most items on site. We dived into The Apple Pie Cafe on an overcast day and enjoyed their famous vegan-friendly hot apple pie with an oat milk flat white by the fire."
"Located in the heart of Lake District, The Apple Pie is an independent, family run, cafe and bakery serving fresh and quality products everyday to regular visitors, passing tourists and loyal locals. Dog friendly in certain areas of the cafe. Email: info@applepieambleside.co.uk"
"26/05/2021: Melt in the mouth pastry on a generous layer of apple; what more could you ask for?. And great coffee as well!"
"Probably the best option in Keswick for a sit-down dinner, Morrel’s is an attractive restaurant majoring in British bistro-style food. Glossy wood, spotlights and glass give it a refined feel."

"03/05/2021: Ate at Es on Friday, the threatened rain never happened so we were able to enjoy lovely food and a few drinks under the canopy. Wall and free standing heaters close by. Menu was slightly smaller but still plenty of choice."

"Styled like an American Diner there is always a friendly welcome here and we love the food. Its American, Mexican, and tasty. Something a little different from your normal Lakeland fair."
"We love this pub, not only for the wide variety of boozy drinks, but also for its quirky local name. Originally named the New Hall Inn, it became famous as The Hole in t’ Wall due to a gap in the brick that was knocked through so they could continue serving beer to blacksmith while they were working!. The wide array of cask ales, nice rum and over 20 gins – as well as good pub grub – make this a great place to end your evening after a full day exploring this stunning area."
"06/06/2021: Popped in for drinks on Friday evening and found the staff very friendly, atmosphere was pleasant. Nice area to sit outside in front of the pub. Top tip - get there before 9pm - currently last orders at 9pm due to staffing shortages."
"This is a quirky friendly place for a homemade scone, cake, or soup. Everyone’s welcome again I’ve popped in here for a coffee after a day’s walking with muddy boots, woofs in tow, and felt right at home. Definitely worth a visit if your passing it’s a lovely atmosphere and everyone’s friendly and welcoming."

"This proper fairytale castle only recently opened its doors to the public and is operated by the National Trust. The neo-gothic castle has numerous towers and turrets to explore and various exhibitions to check out along the way. For example, kids can dress up in period costumes, build their own castle and explore the new Peter Rabbit adventure rooms, as well as an excellent outdoor play area too."
"One of the best rainy day places to visit in Windermere for families, Wray Castle is a rambling mock-Gothic castle with masses of indoor and outdoor space. Things to do include dressing up, giant foam brick building & a Peter Rabbit experience. On the shore of the lake, it’s great for sunny days too ….more things to do here >>"

"Sitting above Stock Beck next to Rydal Road, Bridge House may be the whole region’s most photographed landmark. Like all of Ambleside this adorable, narrow dwelling is constructed from local slate and has been owned by the National Trust for nearly a century after it was bought and donated by a group of local residents. The Bridge House dates from the 17th century, when it was used as an orchard storehouse, and has since been a mill counting house, chair-maker’s workshop, cobbler’s shop, tearoom and a family home packed with as many as eight people."
