RecommendationsLuxury B&B Keswick, Lake District
"Brockhole is the official visitor centre of the Lake District, located on the shores of Lake Windermere. While it’s a great place to relax by England’s biggest lake, there’s also plenty to see and do during a visit to Brockhole, whether it’s simply walking through the meadows and woodland or having a go at the Treetop Trek course or even hiring a canoe to adventure onto Lake Windermere. As you can see, there’s so much to see and do for the whole family in the South Lakes area, so why not stop by for a few nights at Holgates holiday cottages here in Silverdale?"
"In collaboration with Cumbria Tourism, we had been lucky enough to be provided with tickets for some activities at Brockhole. Located a few miles from Bowness and on the way to Ambleside, Brockhole is an absolute gem of a day out for families. There is a real mix of activities on offer for all ages and although you have to pay for parking, there are lots of activities that are free to take part in (although you will be tempted by the abundance of activities on offer that you do need to pay for so be prepared!)."
"Take in the scenic views and gardens down to the shores of Windermere. Browse round the shop and treat yourself to something tasty in the café. The extensive gardens are a delight whatever time you choose to visit."
"Nestling between the Lake District and the Yorkshire Dales, a rescued Farfield Mill opened its doors in 2001 to an exciting new life providing access to high-quality art and crafts and heritage."
"If you’re looking to pick up some local bits and pieces to decorate your home with when you get back, pop into local artist Rebecca Cropper’s studio in Bowness, where she sells framed and mounted pieces. Incorporating lots of the local landscape into her works, the collection also includes mugs, cushions, lampshades and other homeware too. Alongside these great local stores, Bowness is also home to a selection of high-street names such as Pandora, Fat Face, Joules, Edinburgh Woolen Mill and more, so why not spend a day indulging in a bit of retail therapy during your stay in Bowness?"
"While I haven’t actually ever been to the Rheged Centre, I’ve heard nothing but wonderful things from my family about it. Its name reminding me somewhat of a Targaryen character from Game of Thrones, the Rheged Centre is home to a 6-storey high cinema screen, numerous shops, cafes and a huge outdoor activity centre for both children and adults to enjoy. It’s open all year round and is ideal for almost all weather conditions due to its indoor and outdoor facilities."
"On the eastern shore of Coniston Water, Brantwood was the cherished home of John Ruskin (1819–1900), the noted Victorian artist, writer,…"
"You can see six waterfalls, a gorge and a glen all in one go on the Ingleton Waterfall Trail. It offers 4.3 miles of scenic hiking across the Yorkshire and Cumbria border. You’ll follow the River Twiss to Pecca Falls and Hollybush Spout before you reach Thornton Force, which thunders 46 feet into the river below."
"Follow this 5-mile (8km) circular trail through a wooded glen to view one of the most impressive collections of waterfalls in Yorkshire, including the dramatic 46ft-high (14m) Thornton Force."
"Kat's Kitchen is a delightful vegan cafe, serving homemade meals, including English breakfast and sandwiches with a wonderful selection of gluten free cakes on offer. It offers plant milk options too for hot drinks and milkshakes whilst also keeping dairy milk as an option. Offering brunch and lunch all year around, the kitchen offers early dinner during the busier months and introduced afternoon tea in 2020."
"05/06/2021: We were lucky enough to get a table at Lucy's a week after they reopened post lockdown 3!. The service, ambience and food were all back to their best.Last summer we had to queue to get in but that system seems to have been streamlined so were not outside for long. All the old favourites are on the menu and the celebrity guests (cardboard cutouts) add a talking point and a bit of fun. There is a general shortage of restaurant staff in the town but Lucy's staff worked very hard to ensure we were well looked after. 03/06/2021: We went to Lucy's a while ago now and are still talking about it now which prompted this review."
"Church Street, Ambleside, Cumbria Tel: 015394 31191 A warm and welcoming enjoyable informal café experience of bustling joviality by day and a uniquely atmospheric candlelit restaurant by night."
"05/06/2021: Overall the adherence to Covid regulations was the best we’ve experienced anywhere - sanitiser & antibacterial wipes everywhere (e.g. could wipe down toilet seat before & after use). Only gave a 4 because daughter had to change baby on a seat on the stairway & staff were unpacking boxes whilst we were there. Staff were lovely & attentive - wishing me a happy birthday & making a fuss of baby."
"With a restaurant, gin bar and cafe, The Magic Roundabout offers up good pub grub in a quirky setting. You could eat all your meals here, too, as they serve up breakfast all through to dinner, including afternoon tea!. Then there are evening drinks at their well-stocked bar and excellent vegetarian food."
